ABI really does offer cross functional movement. With 19 years in marketing, I've gone form being the UK's Marketing Director to the On Trade & Route To Market Sales Director, managing 105 people.

ABI is never a dull 9 to 5 job. Every day we are faced with new challenges and have the freedom to explore new opportunities. I've worked in Trade Marketing, Sales, and Logistics. Now I'm responsible for logistics in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain and Italy with 450 employees. I learn each day and I'm so grateful that people trusted in my abilities to give me bigger and bigger projects and responsibilities in my career, creating a great sense of ownership. I also really like the 4 crates of free beer I get each month!

You can have an accelerated career here - I've been promoted every two and a half years. I started in Belgium in controlling, moved to Logistics Projects Director, then to Logistics Operations Director for Europe. About eighteen months ago I moved to our New York headquarters for a global role. I enjoy the challenging environment and in all 4 positions, I was pushed out of my comfort zone. I learned a lot and I am still learning every day, about logistics but also finance, legal, leadership, strategy, and project management.

I love ABI because of its great beers and the culture of the company. You get the chance to work on initiatives that build the best beers in the world. The culture is great for young and ambitious people, who like delivering great results and this in an open meritocracy and as you work with the best people, you have a lot of opportunities for developing.

We work in a driven, fast paced environment with the opportunity to develop skills in different areas of the business. I've worked on campaigns like Budweiser Fifa World Cup and Stella Artois Wimbledon. And in the last 12 months I've worked in different departments and on projects such as Cidre and new brand launches such as Cubanisto.

Peter Sauer

Director Brewery Operations
Germany

ABI offers people some interesting career paths, and Peter is a good example of the way we can offer global opportunities, and rapid progression. Having graduated as a biochemical engineer in the nineties, ABI has supported Peter's development to become an operations director leading 5 breweries and 1.200 people.

Peter joined the company from P&G in 2000, and specialised in packaging development. In 2002 he moved to Canada to lead the North American team, then in 2004 he returned to Europe becoming the director of Zone Technology Development. Since 2008 he has been a Plant Manager in Hoegaarden and Glasgow, before becoming Director of Brewery Operations, Germany in 2010.

This global experience has been important for his whole family, and he describes it best, 'In the last 10 yrs, I have worked and lived with my family in 4 different countries in 2 continents. On top of the exciting business opportunities, this has provided my family with a fantastic cross-cultural adventure that will personally enrich us for decades to come. In terms of my career I embraced the opportunity ABI gave me to develop from a development specialist into an operations director.'

Peter's career path is a good example of how we promote ability – the job title is only relevant in the organisational chart, but the results you achieve are what actually dictate your future. Part of his success also comes from commitment, and few things drive commitment to our products better than listening to the testimonies of consumers talking about the new beers or packaging concepts our team has successfully developed and launched into the market.

Peter feels that after a decade at ABI you will have changed. He says, "You'll find that pride no longer comes from your own promotion but predominantly from the promotion of the people you helped to develop. And also that you’ll will get out of bed in the morning feeling like a shareholder rather than as an employee."

"Looking forward to my future at ABI, I hope to be able to help develop many talented young people to become better than myself. That will provide me with a daily job satisfaction and a long-term shareholder value.

I also hope our consumers may inspire me to explore totally new territories of beer occasions where our products can be enjoyed responsibly while we bring people together."
