Global IP Manager GITEC
 

Purpose of the Job: 
  • To globally lead the technical IP (Intellectual Property) / patent strategy for ABInBev, 
  • Work with key stakeholders (global, zone and country level) from different areas of the business (supply, procurement, tax, finance, legal) to ensure one strategy, delivering the best possible results for the company.
  • Work closely with Global Legal to ensure alignment and feasibility for proposed patent strategies. 
  • To create and updated IP strategy and governance model with the goal of maximizing value creation, positively influencing our EBITDA.
  • To continuously scout and identify new technologies / opportunities for AB InBev in the fields of new product and process development IP, aligned with company strategic pillars and patent portfolio goals, working close together with Procurement, Innovation, Legal and other supply areas. 
  • Lead negotiations with 3rd party companies / inventors up until acquisition.
  • Build training material in the area of IP management with Global Legal Manager – IP, with the goal to increase overall knowledge of global and zone teams, and ensure all areas of the business follow one strategy.
  • Lead internal and external ideation sessions e.g. gamification challenges, hackathon. 
Accountabilities
  • Able to guide all of GITEC’s technical developments mostly with high complexity and broad scope (on zone and or global level) with the goal to get the best possible IP position for the company. This will include all focus areas of our R&D organization, hence the job requires a high (proven) degree of self-coordination and a broad technical as well as some legal/IP understanding.
  • Ownership of key GITEC financial KPIs and responsibility for delivering 3YP R&D Revenue targets as well as 1Y delivery.  
  • Responsibility for project leadership & management, as well as hands on involvement as a project team member, for initiatives with high complexity incl. monthly reporting of status to senior management.
  • Acquisition of disruptive technologies from external sources to guarantee future success and competitive advantage of the company.

About the candidate:
Requirements: 

Education & Experience
  • University technical degree or equivalent (Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Engineering, Biology, Agronomy, Brewing Science, Food Science) additional technical brewing education is an asset.
  • Some relevant background knowledge in the area of IP and patent laws, from a global perspective.
  • PhD in Engineering is an asset
  • Training in Six Sigma (Design For Six Sigma, Problem solving and Continuous improvement) is an asset.
Competencies
  • Demonstrated successful experience in management of projects of high complexity and/ or risk profile (product and process feasibility / development / implementation)
  • Experience in equipment and/or process development areas for processing industries and technical expertise in science & technology
  • Minimum 5 years business experience or in a related environment.
  • Relevant experience in working with and understanding legal advice in IP portfolio management (FTO, filing, prosecution).
  • Demonstrated expertise in building strong, auditable business cases.
  • Relevant experience within the brewing / beverage industry is an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to impact and influence to move things forward, while balancing differing ideas / agendas.
  • Very good communicator, with a demonstrated ability to translate technical items into commercial concepts and vice-versa.
  • Fluency in English.  Additional languages are an asset.
  • Familiarity with the fundamentals of IP and the steps involved in patenting new technologies, helping to build strong overall IP portfolio that gives ABInBev competitive advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability of multi-dimensional, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated strong ability to communicate and negotiate with (internal / external) stakeholders in different areas and levels.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience to apply advanced problem solving and continuous improvement tools (such as PDCA, 6 Sigma, DOE, regression analysis, etc ).
