AB InBev seeks a Global R&D Packaging Director to join their Global Innovation & Technology Center.

GITEC is AB InBev’s Global Research & Development Center located in its secure facility at AB InBev’s Global Headquarters in Leuven, Belgium.  At GITEC, a diverse team of more than 120 scientists, pulling from more than 20 nationalities, work diligently to achieve GITEC’s Dream of ‘Bringing people together to create and deliver winning innovation and technologies’, through developing breakthrough raw materials, packaging and brewing processes.

Global Metal Packaging Director

Locatie: Global Headquarters – GITEC – Leuven Belgium

Reporting to Global Director Packaging Technology

Purpose of the Job
  • Responsible to build company R&D strategy (healthy pipeline,  prioritization, partner selection …) for metal packaging, aligned with key counterparts
  • Responsible for solid business case evaluation of projects
  • Responsible to deliver full project portfolio of breakthrough metal packaging technology projects (cans/bottles/closures) delivering cost saving, capex avoidance, carbon footprint reduction or product quality improvement
  • Day to day management of 5 global packaging engineers
  • Ensure strong collaboration and alignment with packaging director and packaging manager in the different zone technical centers
  • Ensure strong collaboration and alignment with key counterparts in procurement, engineering, in-house manufacturing operations …
  • Be the company recognized Metal Packaging R&D strategy and saving delivery  leader
  • Global AB-InBev metal packaging portfolio, approx. 3.5 billion USD annual spend
  • Focusing on the full supply chain: alloys chemistry, alloy milling, metal packaging design, metal packaging manufacturing, metal packaging filling and metal packaging transport
  • Multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment
  • Daily collaboration with internal (metal container/closures manufacturing, engineering, procurement …) and external (universities, suppliers, institutes …) partners

About the candidate:
  • Relevant scientific Master degree
  • 10-15 years profound professional project management, people management and technical metal experience
  • In depth understanding on alloy chemistry , two piece beverage container design/specification, two piece beverage container manufacturing, two piece beverage container filling
  • DOE (Design of Experiment) or Six Sigma (Black Belt, Green Belt) certified, or equal trough experience
  • Experience and passion for front end technologies
  • Strong ability to lead and manage projects, project portfolio, people and multiple stakeholders,  with high level of complexity
  • Strong communication skills, perseverance, agility, ownership behavior, influencing skills, presentation skills
  • Ability to lead and inspire a team of technical specialists
  • Fluent in English
  • Significant global travelling involved
